The TAD 6550A-STR BLACKPLATE™ offers a controlled, NOS-inspired interpretation of the classic 6550 sound. It provides a smooth and musical breakup, supported by warm mids and a naturally balanced overall response. The tube maintains clarity even in complex material, reflecting the design approach of early high-grade power tubes.

This model benefits from stable thermal performance, contributing to long service life and consistent behaviour under demanding conditions. Production of the BLACKPLATE™ series resumed in 2024 using remaining original raw materials, following the closure of the previous factory in 2019. Each unit is tested, selected, and matched by TAD in Germany to ensure reliable application across 6550-based amplifier designs.

It features a black-plate structure, dependable heat dissipation, and characteristics suited for detailed, three-dimensional reproduction. It serves as a modern upgrade option for any 6550 application.
