A scalpel is a great versatile tool to have around at the work bench. It’s of course suitable for precision cuts in plastics, wood and paper but it can also be used as a small but very sharp scraper for finish repairs, binding and inlay work. There are so many other small jobs around the bench, like stripping thin electrical wiring from pickups, scoring the lacquer around a top nut before removing it, cutting masking tape and sandpaper to size etc.
