Introduced by Gibson in 1952 on the first Les Paul guitars until 1958, the Goldtop is one of the classic finishes from Gibson par excellence and is loved by many of collectors, along with the ’59/’60s bursts. It was revived from 1968 to 1974 and was used on Les Paul Deluxe guitars, as well as on the seventies Les Paul Recording guitars.

This finish is a single component acrylic paint. It allows to apply the colour in a very even way, giving a spectacular metallic appearance. It’s important to finish the applied coat with a clear polyurethane or nitrocellulose finish over it, to protect the plating and add depth.
