These knobs have a nice vintage style shape with a soft radius bevel at the top. The top also has a light dimple (fall in) and last but not least nice vintage style numbers, white or black depending on type. The numbers were coloured in the old-fashioned way, where paint is injected into each number with deft hand work.
The material used for these knobs is not a nylon derivative but historic correct CAB (Cellulose Acetate Butyrate). It’s static free and gives the knobs an overall nice vintage look and feel. The injection of the paint into the knobs and final rubbed finish is done by hand as well. Golden knobs show signs of greenish smeared oxidisation like the CAB material generally ages over time.
Golden speed knobs were commonly used by Gibson in the early 50’s (1953-55). The black ones appeared on both 50’s and 60’s guitars. Golden bell knobs appeared on the 1958-60 LP Standard. Black bell knobs were used in the 50’s and 60’s for several models, amongst others the LP Jr. and Special.
